November is such a beautiful month to be thankful. Ok, I´m kinda biased with the month of November because it’s my mom’s month but nonetheless a great month to catch up on all the months of the year that you might have not been great at being thankful for all that you have and own, your family, friends, your job, your hobbies, your car, your pets, let me stop, ´cause I can go on and on and on.
This year feels particularly different, and it feels damn good to just be here. To celebrate that, my youngest daughter Anya and myself made our version of a Thankful Cake Mix jar with @ballcanning, perfect to offer to the special people in our lives. It’s very easy to follow and I´m sure your loved ones will enjoy it too. There´s one perk, it has to be fun while doing it. Let’s get to it.
This is what you´ll need:
- Main ingredient: Mess allowed (hint, hint), lots of fun and made with love
- Ball® Quart Jars
- 2 cups self-rising flour or 2 cups regular flour plus 2 TBSP of baking powder
- ½ cup of white sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup smarties (hint: for fun, to munch on and for colour)
Wet ingredients:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (no seeds or peel).
- 4 eggs
- 4 oz butter
- Orange juice to pour on top of the cake for a moist cake
- Butter and flour to grease and powder cake pan
- Oven heated at 180ºC
To make it pretty:
- Pair of scissors
- Labels
- Burlap String
- Chalk pen
- Blender
The dry mix stays stored in the Jar until ready to bake. It must then be transferred to a bowl to mix and finally be poured into a cake pan before going to the oven.
Write this recipe in a beautiful card or send your loved ones to our blog for more info. Here’s how to make the cake:
Heat oven at 180ºC for 10 minutes. Mix all the wet ingredients first then add all the dry ingredients, mix until the batter is smooth. Grease and powder the cake pan. Add batter and let it bake for 35 to 45 minutes. Once baked, remove from the oven, let it cool a bit then add orange juice on top for a more moist cake. Decorate with orange slices. Enjoy.
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
