The best way to get rid of clutter is to get rid of clutter right? Yes, it is until the clutter comes back. Decluttering is the process of clearing out and getting rid of an untidy collection of unnecessary things.
Such items get in our way and once we get rid of them, there’s this joy that comes within. We feel as though a weight was lifted off from our shoulders.
The sad part is that this clutter tends to re-appear from nowhere. A few days or weeks after decluttering, you might be surprised to find yourself back at square one. This will continue to happen until you create a system that works. You need to develop some certain habits and put a system to work for you to achieve a long-lasting clutter-free life.
Over the years, I have learned from experience, how to get rid of clutter for good. Below are steps you need to take to ensure you
How To Get Rid Of Clutter For Good
1) Have a goal
First of all, hardly anything happens by chance. To achieve any goal at all, we have to adequately plan for it. If you want to get rid of your clutter for good, then you should set the goal, put up a plan and work towards it.
2) Declutter
The next thing you need to do is to actually declutter your space. But at the end of the day, decluttering is a process, not an event. Just because you decluttered doesn’t mean it will magically stay that way, you have to ensure you make it a habit.
3) Create an effective disposing system
You could put a wastebasket in every room and every bathroom for easy disposing of waste. This would help reduce clutter being left in the wrong places with the aim of throwing them away later. It is also a good idea to have separate bins for different types of waste such as paper, plastic, bottles, and food.
4) Bring less clutter into the house
Stop buying unnecessary stuff and try to use reusable shopping bags to avoid bringing in all those plastic bags from the store. Try buying less of duplicates which you might never even use.
5) Dispose of clutter on the go
Try to dispose of clutter immediately. Don’t keep it somewhere with the plan of disposing of it later. Anything that needs to be thrown away should be thrown away without hesitation. That way, you don’t get to pile up unnecessary stuff that takes up space.
6) Cleanup after yourself
Everyone in your home should learn to pick up their own pieces and clean up after themselves. It’s easier when its a teamwork.
8) Stay organized
When there’s a place for everything and everything is in its place, it’s easy to see when something doesn’t belong anywhere. This makes it easy to spot those things that need to be discarded at once. Staying organized helps you see that you really don’t have room for any clutter and you get to kick it out at once.
The secret is to carry out small tasks daily. Each day, do something that leads to achieving your goal of having a clutter-free home for good. Pick stuff up and put them where they belong. Throw away what needs to be thrown. Donate what needs to be donated. Cleanup messes immediately. Don’t wait until everything piles up and gets you overwhelmed.
